Birds of Kerrville Gallery

Why Are We Doing This?

The Bird City Texas program is where environmental stewardship meets community prosperity.

Kerrville, as the capital of the Hill Country, is already a paradise destination for birding enthusiasts. Kerrville Convention and Visitor’s Bureau

We can build on this to promote prosperity in our community while also working to preserve our natural habitats for birds (and people) as we face unprecedented challenges from growth in our community.

Where birds thrive, people prosper!

Research shows that bird-friendly habitat increases property values, helps control insects, and generates tourism dollars.

Millions of dollars each year are left behind by tourists, through the
money they spend in restaurants, on birding gear and through the hotel-
motel taxes, that help restore our natural habitat.

The BCT program helps communities create a vision for what they want
conservation to look like in generations to come.

For our application we have designated the community of “Kerrville” as the City of Kerrville plus those parts of Kerr County that, together with the City, form an integrated bird and birder community.

It’s about more than money…birds, serve as bioindicators. When diverse native birds are present, that area is assumed to be healthy and functional; when they’re gone, the opposite is true. Texas Parks and Wildlife
